Tour Plan
Galle is a city on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. Its known for Galle Fort, the fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. Stone seawalls, expanded by the Dutch, encircle car-free streets with architecture reflecting Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Notable buildings include the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church. Galle Lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip. Built by the Dutch, beginning in 1663, Galle's core is the Fort, a walled enclave surrounded on three sides by the ocean. A key part of the Fort’s appeal is that it isn’t just a pretty place. Sure, tourism now dominates the local economy, but this unique city remains a working community: there are administrative offices and courts, export companies, schools and colleges.
This cycling tour takes you along the north-west shoreline of Koggala Lake and its cinnamon plantations. Koggala Lake is one of the most beautiful locations in this part of the country.

Exploring the paddy fields and quaint villages around Galle in Sri Lanka was an eye-opening experience that exceeded our expectations. We particularly loved pedaling past the vibrant green landscapes and soaking in the local culture, but a little more time at each stop would have made it even better.

We had an amazing time cycling through lush fields and charming villages, taking in breathtaking views that we didn’t expect to find. The ride was invigorating, and we loved stopping to chat with locals who were tending to their crops, adding a personal touch to our adventure. Our guide was knowledgeable and kept the pace just right, ensuring we could soak in the scenery while enjoying each other’s company. One minor suggestion would be to add a few more breaks; it would have been nice to linger a bit longer in some of the picturesque spots. Overall, we came away with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for the rural beauty of the area.

From the moment we hopped on our bikes, the journey felt like a refreshing escape. We meandered through lush green fields, admiring the local farmers working diligently as we passed their charming villages. One highlight was stopping by a picturesque temple, where we interacted with friendly locals who shared fascinating stories about their traditions. The gentle breeze and vibrant scenery kept our spirits high throughout the ride. If there’s one small suggestion, it would be to have a bit more time in the villages to soak in the atmosphere. Overall, this experience was a lovely way to connect with the region’s culture and natural beauty.

Cycling through Galle’s verdant paddy fields and charming villages was a fantastic way for us to immerse ourselves in the local culture. The scenery was stunning, with vibrant greens all around and friendly villagers waving as we passed by. We appreciated the comfortable bikes and the smooth transportation to the starting point, which made it easy to dive right into the adventure. However, a little more time to explore the villages would have been a nice touch, as we often felt rushed. Overall, this tour was an unforgettable experience that brought us closer to the heart of the region.
