Itinerary
Here you are in front of the Saint-Michel and Gudule Cathedral. This Gothic cathedral dates from the 13th century and was built on the ruins of an ancient Romanesque cathedral.
You are now crossing the Brussels Park which leads you to the Royal Palace. In fact, it used to be called the Royal Park.
The Alley of Palaces, crossing the park, takes you, surprisingly, in front of the Royal Palace. So a quick technical reminder, yes, in Belgium, there is a monarchy!
This royal square, well surrounded by beautiful mansions and the Saint-Jacques church on Coudenberg, was born of an enormous urban redevelopment in the 1770s.
If like me, you like Art Nouveau, in Brussels you will be served! Starting with this magnificent building, a former Old England department store built by the architect Paul Saintenoy.
A few steps from the Mim, there is another work by the architect Paul Saintenoy, the English Pharmacy! How beautiful it is, now converted into a cocktail bar.
You probably noticed that you were in the upper part of Brussels where the royal palace is located.
You pass by the comic book house. Moreover, if you are an amateur, go to the Belgian comic strip center on Rue des Sables.
When I told you that Belgium is full of artists! Here is L'Envol, in tribute to Grand Jacques.
Here you can admire the large painted wall and its fireworks! You have probably already noticed, the walls of Brussels are frequently covered with gigantic murals, paying tribute to Belgian comics.
You see a crowd around the corner, that's normal, you arrive in front of the little celebrity from Belgium, I am of course talking to you about the big Manneken Pis.
There is so much to see at this crossroads that you need to spend a few minutes there. I let you immerse yourself in its colors, its original facades and the animation that reigns around its bars and shops.
Les Halles are often the city's meeting place par excellence. Those of Saint Géry are no exception to the rule.
After Manneken-Pis and his sister Janneken-Pis, here comes their dog, Zinneke Pis! This statue completes the family of small bronze figures and reminds us if we had forgotten it, that Belgians definitely have a sense of humor!
Place Sainte-Catherine is in the heart of the dynamic neighborhood of the same name. Here, it's time for creators and culture.
Here we have the strange sensation of being on docks with no river or river. The basins and the alignment of the facades remind us that only yesterday the port of Brussels reached the square.
This church that you see in front of you, replaces the former chapel of the largest beguination in Brussels in the 13th century.
This small square, which forms at the start of Rue au Beurre, deserves attention.
Here we are in front of the King's House, a neo-Gothic echo of the Town Hall in front of it. It was built in 1536 and renovated in 1873.
You feel very small and that's normal! Grand Place embraces you with its majesty. You are in the center of one of the most beautiful squares in the world!
Each of the guilds houses in Grand-Place has more to offer you than pretty, well-decorated facades.
Another impressive architectural ensemble of the square, here is the house of the Dukes of Brabants. Immense, it takes up the entire east side of Grand-Place.
You enter the sublime Galeries Saint Hubert. Built in 1847, they are among the oldest in Europe!
We pass in front of the Belgian institution that is Delirium. Note that Belgian beer culture is classified as an intangible heritage by UNESCO!
You arrive on the Place de la Monnaie in front of the imposing Opera Theater of the same name. Their two names come from the ancient function of the place that housed the mint that minted the coins of the Duchy of Brabant since 1420.
