In the evening, savour dinner at the lodge.

    Day 2 PUERTO MALDONADO

After a tasty breakfast at the lodge early in the morning around 5.30 get ready for a walk along the Tambopata National Reserve to Lake Sandoval, and you will understand why Madre de Dios is known as the biodiversity capital of Peru. Tour the lake aboard a traditional canoe in what appears to be a mirror of water and search for species such as the giant otter, the blue and yellow macaw, the howler monkey, the black alligator and the paiche, one of the fish with scales of the world's largest freshwater. Enjoy lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, discover the heights of the jungle in the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Anaconda Walk experience, where you will learn about the projects of ITA- Inkaterra Association, an NGO in charge of environmental conservation. You will walk along suspension bridges that connect the canopies of trees at 28 meters above the ground in search of toucans, hummingbirds, trogons, monkeys and sloths. At night, get ready for a nocturnal adventure through the Amazon and watch how the animals appear at night, with behaviours different from the day time fauna. Close your eyes and open your ears to hear the unique sounds that the jungle gives you. Then, return to the hotel for dinner and rest.Overnight in Puerto Maldonado.

    Day 3 PUERTO MALDONADO

After breakfast at the lodge, explore our organic bio-garden, where you will discover tropical plants and their medicinal uses according to local traditions. Then, visit the Palmetum, a collection of Amazonian palm trees dedicated to restoration and conservation. In the afternoon, enjoy paddling a wooden canoe on the Cocha Concepción, a horseshoe-shaped lagoon formed by the remnants of the Madre de Dios River. Navigate its clay-colored waters while watching birds such as shanshos and flycatchers, with the roar of howler monkeys in the background. Admire the remains of the Fitzcarrald steamboat and learn about its history, which inspired the film “Fitzcarraldo” by Werner Herzog. Before dinner, join the Collpas Tierra Adentro excursion to visit a clay lick. Although spotting wildlife can be a matter of luck, you will learn how these clay walls attract various mammals near the lodge.Overnight in Puerto Maldonado.

    1. Our time in the Amazon was marked by an unforgettable evening spent by the river, where we shared stories over a delicious meal of freshly caught fish, seasoned perfectly with local spices. The vibrant sounds of the jungle around us created a truly immersive atmosphere as we observed the unique wildlife that calls this region home. While the accommodations were comfortable, we found that the lack of Wi-Fi made it a bit challenging to stay connected with our business commitments. Overall, the experience of exploring Puerto Maldonado and its incredible biodiversity left us with a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Venturing into the depths of the jungle was an experience that stirred a mix of excitement and awe in me. One evening, as I sat down to savor a meal of freshly caught fish accompanied by vibrant tropical fruits, I was enveloped by the sounds of nature, a symphony that made the fleeting discomforts of humidity and the occasional insect bite feel so insignificant. Each day was filled with guided explorations that unveiled a stunning tapestry of wildlife and lush greenery, reminding me of the planet’s richness and fragility. However, I did find the pace a bit rushed at times, which made it challenging to take everything in fully. Still, the connections I made with fellow travelers and the local guides added an invaluable layer to my journey, leaving me with memories I’ll cherish for years.

    3. Exploring the rich biodiversity of the jungle was truly a highlight for us, with vibrant flora and encounters with unique wildlife that left us in awe. While the food was generally delicious, we found the limited options a bit underwhelming at times, especially given the incredible setting.
