Chania Old Town

Chania city boasts a rich tapestry of cultural influences accumulated over centuries. From the reign of Roman king Kidon to the rule of the Byzantine Empire, from Venetian royalties to Turkish conquerors, each era has left its mark on this enchanting city. Walking through its streets, you'll encounter magnificent palaces, cobblestone pathways, and formidable forts, each bearing witness to Chania's storied past. A highlight of the tour is the Old Market, renowned as one of Europe's finest. Here, the adage "Greece has everything" rings true as you browse through stalls brimming with local produce, artisanal honey, aromatic teas and coffees, and an abundance of fresh seafood. Don't miss the expansive food court offering a tantalizing array of traditional dishes, providing the perfect opportunity to savor the flavors of Crete. Whether seeking a souvenir or indulging in culinary delights, Chania's Old Market offers a captivating blend of history, culture, and gastronomy awaiting discovery.

Chryssopigi Monastery (Women’s convent)

Our next destination is the Chrissopigi Monastery, revered as one of Greece's most renowned nunneries. Originally established as a male monastery in the 16th century, its tumultuous history reflects the enduring struggles of Crete through occupations and conquests over the centuries. Sadly, the monastery fell victim to destruction during the Revolution of 1821. However, in a testament to resilience, the monastery was painstakingly rebuilt and restored to its former glory in 1976 by the first three nuns of the present sisterhood. Today, the dedicated nuns engage in a myriad of activities, including embroidery, the preservation of ancient texts and icons, bookbinding, publishing, beekeeping, candle crafting, and the production of incense and soap, among others.
