Itinerary

Rila Monastery

Biggest and most important orthodox cloister in the country – is, without any doubt, the jewel of Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage.

Underground Mining Museum

The underground mining museum in Pernik is unique for the Balkan Peninsula. It is located in two of the preserved galleries of the first underground mine, known as the "Old Mines" (1891). The two galleries have a total length of about 630 meters. The exhibition chambers of the museum present the history of coal mining for more than a century - from manual mining and the removal of coal with wooden carts and carts, through horse carriage to Siemens electric locomotives and mechanized coal mining complexes.

At 50 meters underground, visitors are exposed not only to mining labor and the history of coal mining, but also to the unique history of a city born from the "black gold".
