Musick Point, East Auckland Visit
Musick Point / Te Naupata is a scenic headland at the tip of Auckland’s Bucklands Beach peninsula. Named in 1942 after American aviation pioneer Captain Edwin Musick, it was formerly the site of the historic Musick Memorial Radio Station—an Art Deco–inspired WWII communications hub designed to serve aviation and maritime routes .
Originally a fortified Māori pā known as Te Waiarohia, the point offers elevated coastal trails, expansive views across the Hauraki Gulf to Rangitoto, Waiheke, Motuihe, and Browns Islands, and a rare peaceful escape accessed via a drive through the Howick Golf Course.
Today it's a popular spot for picnics, fishing, walking, and amateur radio enthusiasts who maintain the heritage station. With wheelchair‑friendly paths, phantom‑shading pōhutukawa trees, and sunset-ready vantage points, Musick Point blends cultural heritage with natural beauty.
