💎 Why we love it ?

During this 6-day trip, discover the Alto Orinoco that was part of the route that the expeditionary naturalist Alexander von Humboldt made in the 14th century, passing through Puerto Inírida – Guainía, Raudales de Atures and Maipures, The Mavecure Hills, El Tuparro National Natural Park, and La Estrella Fluvial del Sur.

🏁 Tour Itinerary: 6 Days Colombia Tour to Discover the Route of Alexander Von Humboldt

Day 1: Fly to Puerto Carreño – Welcome to the Orinoco (L, D)

Welcome to the adventure through Humbolt’s Route. You will be welcomed by your host at the Germán Olano airport in Puerto Carreño. While at the dock, we will start the tour through the Orinoco River from Puerto Carreño to the town of Casuarito, located 90 km away.
During this first experience, you will have the opportunity to appreciate different ecosystems made up of arizales, riparian forests, rocky outcrops, and gallery forests. From Casuarito, we will continue our trip by boat to the mouths of Caño Mesetas and from there we will take a walk of approximately 1 hour to the port known as El Tablón.
The walk is carried out only with cameras and hydration since the luggage will be on the boat through the Raudales de Atures and Palo Masón, which we will have the opportunity to appreciate throughout the walk. These streams are classified as the widest rapids in the world.
From El Tablón, we will continue our boat tour on the Orinoco River to the Garcitas Community, where you will enjoy lunch. Continuing around 2:00 p.m., you will travel by boat to El Tuparro National Natural Park. You will arrive at the visitor center of the Park and then go to the base camp, which will be located at the mouth of the Tomo river on the Orinoco.
After settling in, we headed for the Maipures rapids, listed by the naturist expeditionary Alexander von Humboldt as the eighth wonder of the world. In the end, we will return to our camp at 17:30 to have dinner and rest.

🏚️ Accommodation: Camping or Hammock.

Day 2: El Tuparro National Natural Park  (B, L, D)

Enjoy breakfast at your lodging. Then, we will be ready for the second day of exploration. After breakfast, we start our tour at 07:00 along the Tuparro River towards the Raudalito indigenous community, Caño Lapa of the Sikuani ethnic group.
There, we will have the opportunity to see the process of making the casabe, the mañoco, and appreciate the churuatas, which are built from wood and palm. Then, we visit the Caño Lapa waterfall to take a refreshing swim in its crystal clear waters.
The return to the base camp is made at approximately noon for lunch. Then, in the camp, we go to the Cerro del Guahibo to see the sunset and say goodbye to the beautiful landscapes of Vichada. Later we have dinner and rest at our base camp.

🏚️ Accommodation: Camping or Hammock.

Day 3: Estrella Fluvial Del Sur  (B, L, D)

After having breakfast and loading the luggage, we leave the camp to move along the Orinoco River to the Maipures Visitor Center. From there, we take a walk of approximately 1.5 k.m. in the middle of the rocky outcrop to the Atarrayadero, to continue our fluvial journey to Puerto Inírida with an approximate time of five hours.
During this experience, we have the opportunity to see the mouth of the Vichada and Matavén Rivers in the Orinoco River. At the mouth of the Matavén River, we stop for lunch and take a refreshing bath and then continue our journey until we reach Castillito, a site where there is a monument to the Virgin of Coromoto, patron saint of Venezuela.
Later, we go to the Estrella Fluvial del Sur where the Orinoco, Guaviare, and Atabapo rivers meet. We continue navigating the Guaviare River until we reach the mouth of the Inírida River and then to Puerto Inírida. Being approximately 16:00, we go to the hotel to settle in, rest, and have dinner.

🏚️ Accommodation: Standard Hotel.

Day 4: Cerros De Mavecure (Mavecure Hills) – (B, L, D)

We will have breakfast at 06:30 and then we will travel by boat along the Inírida River, bound for the Cerros de Mavecure, rocky outcrops that are part of the Guyanese Shield, sacred to various ethnic groups. from the region such as the Puinaves, since they are home to several species of plants of cultural importance.
There, the El Remanso indigenous community is located in this area, where we set up our base camp. According to the weather conditions of the day, we will visit Cerro Mavecure, since if there is rain, the lichen on the rock makes it very slippery and prevents its ascent. In case of not climbing this hill, it will be postponed until the next day and in return, we carry out other activities with the inhabitants of the community, such as touring the savannah to admire the savannas of the Inírida flower or visiting and bathing in the Caño San Joaquín whose characteristic red wine color is due to the tannin of the tree leaves. At the end of the afternoon, we return to the camp for dinner and rest.

🏚️ Accommodation: Camping or Hammock.

Day 5: El Remanso & Caño Matraca (B, L, D)

After breakfast, depending on the activities carried out the day before and following the indications of the local guides of the indigenous community of El Remanso, we go up to Cerro Mavecure. After having lunch, we start our journey back to Puerto Inírida, on which way we make a stop at the mouths of Caño Matraca to observe the freshwater dolphins (their sighting is not always achieved, remember that it is an unpredictable natural phenomenon).
At the end of the afternoon, already settled in the hotel in Puerto Inírida, we will have dinner and rest.

🏚️ Accommodation: Standard Hotel.

Day 6: Depart From Puerto Inírida (B)

After breakfast, we visit the indigenous community of Coco to see the petroglyphs or Caño Vitina depending on the time of year. Then, we will take a tour of the urban area of Puerto Inírida to have the opportunity to buy typical crafts of the region. Finally, we return to the hotel for lunch and then transfer to Cesar Gaviria airport, to take the flight that will take you back to your next destination.
Happy having you in our Humbolt’s Route. We hope to see you again!
