Itinerary

Step 1

9:00 am - Your tour guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in Hampi. After a brief introduction, you will head to your first destination of the day.

Step 2

9:15 am - The first stop on your tour is the Virupaksha Temple, one of the most important and oldest temples in Hampi. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has a history dating back to the 7th century. Your guide will explain the significance of the temple and its impressive architecture, which includes intricate carvings and a towering gopuram (gateway tower).

Step 3

10:30 am - Next, you will visit the Vittala Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most popular landmarks in Hampi. This temple is known for its stunning stone chariot and the musical pillars that produce different sounds when struck. Your guide will provide interesting facts and stories about the temple and its history.

12:00 pm - Lunch break.

Step 4

9:15 am - The first stop on your tour is the Virupaksha Temple, one of the most important and oldest temples in Hampi. Step 5

1:00 pm - After lunch, you will visit the Hazara Rama Temple, a small but beautiful temple complex that was once the private worship place of the Vijayanagara kings. The temple is known for its intricate carvings that depict scenes from the Ramayana, and your guide will explain the stories behind the carvings.

Step 6

2:00 pm - The Royal Enclosure is your next stop, which was the seat of power for the Vijayanagara Empire. The enclosure contains several impressive buildings, including the Lotus Mahal, an ornate pavilion with an Islamic-style dome, and the Elephant Stables, a row of domed chambers where the royal elephants were housed. Your guide will provide insights into the architecture and history of the complex.

3:00 pm - Hampi Bazaar is a bustling street lined with shops selling handicrafts and souvenirs. Take a stroll and browse through the shops to find some unique items to take back home.

Step 7

4:00 pm - Visit the Riverside Ruins, a group of monuments located along the Tungabhadra River. The Krishna Temple is an impressive temple complex that features beautiful and intricate carvings. The Pushkarini, a stepped tank which has been converted into a garden is nearby and can be visited.

Step 8

5:00 pm - The final stop on your tour is Matanga Hill, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. You can climb to the top of the hill for a spectacular view of the Hampi ruins and the sunset. Your guide will provide interesting information about the history and significance of the hill.

Step 9

The Royal Enclosure of Hampi has often been compared to an open air museum. Apart from giving the visitor a glimpse into what life was like under the Vijayanagara rulers, it also showcases the architectural excellence of the era and the level of destruction the city witnessed after the decline of the Vijayanagara kings.

Step 10

6:00 pm - Return to your hotel, where your tour ends. Your guide and driver will bid you farewell and you can spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.
