Cape of Good Hope | Duration: 1 hour
Historical accounts suggest that Bartolomeu Dias originally named the promontory the “Cape of Storms”. Later, King John II of Portugal renamed it the “Cape of Good Hope”, as its discovery was seen as a positive sign that a sea route to India from Europe could be established. Some sources, however, still attribute the present name to Dias himself.
Cape Point | Duration: 2 hours
This mountain has a long and colorful history, largely due to Portuguese explorers searching for a sea route to the East. Cape Point is also home to one of the world’s atmospheric research stations. In the early years of the 20th century, icebergs from Antarctica were occasionally sighted from this iconic point.
Boulders Beach | Duration: 1 hour
This is a popular tourist destination due to a colony of African penguins that settled here in 1982. Boulders Beach is part of the Table Mountain National Park, offering visitors a unique opportunity to observe these charming penguins up close in their natural habitat.
Muizenberg Beach | Duration: 30 minutes
Muizenberg was reportedly named after Wynand Willem Muijs, who commanded a small outpost on the shores of Zandvlei in 1743. The Battle of Muizenberg was a small but significant military engagement that began on 7 August 1795 and ended three months later with the first British occupation of the Cape.
