Pagliari Palace

The tour starts at the Basilica of San Maurizio, dating back to the 18th century. The majestic neoclassic structure dominates the town from the highest point of Porto Maurizio, providing a scenic vista over the sea, the hills, and the little enchanting village of Parasio nearby. The church features a perfectly symmetrical façade in the elegant white color and a sumptuous interior with exquisite paintings covering from the floor to the dome ceiling, along with many other stunning artworks.

Next, go through the Archivolt of Tina, the entrance to Parasio. The historic arch used to be part of the medieval city wall. Wearing the coats of arms of noble Porto Maurizio families, it welcomes visitors who would love to explore the cultural and architectural legacy scattered throughout the ancient village.

Visit the Lodges of Santa Chiara, located at the back of the convent of the same name which rests on the remains of the old city walls. This imposing loggia which looks right at the sea is the best spot from the Parasio Hill to truly admire the beautiful Mediterranean Sea from afar, complete with sailboats and rocky beaches.

Just a few steps away is the 12th-century Oratory of San Pietro, the oldest religious building in Imperia and one of the most beautiful architectural works in Parasio. The current Baroque facade with portico and side staircases resulted from an 18th-century revonation. The small square in front of the temple offers an enchanting background of the sea and the stunning architecture, which makes it a favorite place for numerous weddings and tourists.

Pagliari Palace

Then, pass by the Strafforello Palace. The romantic-looking building in pastel shapes is one of the most interesting residential buildings close to the ancient city walls. It was named after the famous Italian writer Gustavo Strafforello born in the village.

Complete the tour at the Lovers' Walk, a stunning sea esplanade providing numerous terrific viewpoints from terraces equipped with benches for relaxing or taking pictures of the rocky beaches and the magnificent dark blue sea below.
