Itinerary

Chania Town

Minoan neighborhoods, bombarded Ottoman bathhouses,
Hellenistic walls, Latin inscriptions, a church with the symbols of two religions, boot-makers shops, imposing Venetian bastions, knife-makers shops, underground cisterns, a Venetian harbour and an African village are just a part of the multicultural mosaic of the town’s past and of its architectural treasures.

Olive Tree Museum of Vouves

After a refreshing break we will head to the hinterland of Chania, in an area dominated by one of the most emblematic elements of the Cretan landscape; the olive tree!

We will get to know the olive oil culture, beginning from the ‘grandma olive tree’, or else one of the oldest millennial olive trees of the world!

After admiring its ca. 3000-year-old trunk we will visit the small museum right next to it, that narrates the history of the olive-oil production in the island, enriched with several interesting fun facts about it.

Astrikas Estate Biolea

Then we will drive to a nearby village in order to visit the Biolea Olive Oil Mill and have a firsthand view of how the olive oil is produced in a traditional way, yet with modern equipment (stone mill, press). After the oil tasting we will end the tour at the most peaceful and scenic spot; the beautiful backyard of Biolea, where we can enjoy the high-quality Cretan snacks and wines of the café/bar.
