Monastir
Monastir is a beautiful coastal city in the Sahel region of Tunisia, famous for its stunning beaches, rich history, and charming medina. Visitors can stroll along the seafront and admire the marina, the esplanade of the Ribat, and the mausoleum of Bourguiba. The Ribat, a fortified Islamic monastery, offers a panoramic view of the city and surrounding beaches from its 90 steep steps. The golden stones of its towers, battlements, and neighbouring mosque reflect the city's history and heritage.
In the medina, visitors can wander through the cobbled streets and explore the souks full of perfumed spices, leather bags, blankets, woven baskets, and other beautiful crafts. The lively quays and fishing harbor are also worth a visit to observe the daily life of the local fishermen. Monastir's rich history is reflected in its monuments, such as the mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba, the former president of Tunisia, and the impressive Ribat, a historic Islamic fortress that dates back to the 8th century.

This building, dating back to the third century, was used for gladiatorial games and chariot races and could accommodate up to 35,000 spectators, making it one of the largest amphitheaters in the world. The Colosseum is considered one of the most iconic landmarks in Tunisia and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to the Colosseum, El Jem is also known for its historic medina, where visitors can find traditional handicrafts and explore the narrow streets and colorful buildings.
