Chagga Cooking Class and Cultural Experience in Moshi
Why we love it?
Itinerary
Welcome and Cultural Briefing
Meet your local guide for a warm introduction to the vibrant history and traditions of the Chagga people. This session provides essential cultural context before you begin your hands-on experience in the village.
Seasonal Sourcing: Organic Farm or Local Market Experience
Take a guided tour to source the ingredients for your meal. Depending on the harvest season, you will either visit a lush Chagga home garden (Shamba) to harvest organic green bananas and vegetables directly from the farm, or explore a vibrant local market. During the dry season, we visit local traders to hand-pick the freshest produce brought in from neighboring fertile regions, ensuring a true farm-to-table experience regardless of the time of year.
Traditional Culinary Workshop
Step into a local kitchen to master the art of authentic Chagga cuisine. Under the guidance of an expert local host, you will learn to prepare traditional dishes such as Machalari using a wood-fire stove and ancestral cooking techniques.
Authentic Farm-to-Table Dining
Gather with your hosts to enjoy the nutritious, organic meal you helped create. This is an intimate opportunity for storytelling and cultural exchange while savoring the genuine flavors of the Kilimanjaro region.
