  • During the Hekla eruption in 2000 there was a traffic jam, but not because of people fleeing the eruption but because of people trying to get close enough for a good photo op.
  • Landmannalaugar can only be reached during the summer months due to the heavy snowfall in the highlands.
  • On the way up to Landmannalaugar there is a hydroelectric power plant which provides an important supply to the main grid.
  • The last bar before the wilderness is at Hotel Hrauneyjar.
