Itinerary

Corinth Canal

The Corinth Canal is a 6.4 km artificial waterway in Greece that connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the Isthmus of Corinth, separating the Peloponnese peninsula from the mainland and effectively turning the peninsula into an island. [[ ], [ ]]

Conceived by ancient Greeks as early as 620 BC and finally completed in 1893, the canal is a marvel of 19th-century engineering. Today, it functions primarily as a tourist attraction and a shortcut for small vessels, as it is too narrow for modern commercial cargo ships.
