Solio Ranch supports a big population of [ ] and [ ]. The reserve also protects zebra, buffalo, giraffe and several antelope species. All the usual predators including the [ ] are present, although sightings are not common. Lion is most frequently seen, followed by cheetah. Leopard is very rarely seen.
Solio Ranch occupies the valley between the dramatic, snowcapped peak of Mt Kenya and the Aberdare mountains, and you’ll enjoy fine views of both at many places across the ranch. Most of the terrain consists of grassy plains, and the acacia-lined Moyo River meanders through the entire reserve.
DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Nairobi to Aberdare
Pick up at the airport or hotel in our safari vehicle and early morning drive to Aberdare National Park. The drive is scenic via the central Kenya highlands with stops to view tea and coffee plantations. There shall be a further stop to see and experience the largest open-air market in East Africa at Karatina. Aberdare National Park is home to elephants, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, warthogs, and bushbucks among others. Rare sightings include those of the Giant Forest hog, bongo, golden cat, serval cat, African wild cat, African civet cat, and the blue duiker.
Day 2: Solio Conservancy.
Morning after breakfast, Head out to explore Solio Ranch or Solio Game Reserve which is a privately owned wildlife conservancy located in Kenya’s Central Province. The Solio Reserve is internationally recognized as the most successful private rhino breeding reserve in Kenya and visitors will find that sightings of up to 40 rhinoceros at a time are not uncommon. After, Head back to Aberdare for Dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Solio to Nairobi.
Wake up to the sights, sounds, and smells of the African bush this morning. Have breakfast and check out of the hotel. Drive to Nairobi and upon arrival drop off to your city hotel. Or you can have an extension to Maasi mara or the sandy beaches of Watamu.
