Drinking tap water is not safe for your health in Myanmar. It’s also better to avoid water from free public sands. We recommend you to drink bottled water.
💰 Tipping
Tipping is mostly accepted in luxury hotels in Myanmar. $5-10 per person can be the standard amount. However, you can leave a generous gratuity depending on the service received.
🈯 Language
Burmese is the official and primary language in Myanmar. However, Myanmar English is also the national (official) language spoken by about 2.4 million people.
💸 Cash
The Myanmar Kyat (MMK) is the local currency. US Dollars and Credit cards are accepted in most tourist-oriented areas. Travelers can easily change the currency at banks and exchange houses in tourist areas. You’ll find ATMs almost everywhere in Myanmar.
👗 Dress
While there’s no strict dress code in Myanmar, locals follow conservative clothing. Covered legs and shoulders are recommended for men visiting temples. Women are free to wear knee-length shorts, but no camisoles or tank tops are avoided. Long skirts, knee-length shorts, t-shirts, and elephant pants common.
🌐 Wi-Fi
You’ll find Wi-Fi even in remote areas. Despite poor infrastructure, Internet access is widely available in Myanmar. However, don’t expect high speed. Most restaurants, hotels, and cafes provide free public Wi-Fi.

Appliances operate on 230V in Myanmar. Plug types C, D, F, and G are used.
