Tour Plan

Trekking in Dong Van (L)
8:00 AM - You will start today an amazing trek through the unique Dong Van Karst Plateau, included in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network since 2010. Located in the northernmost province in Vietnam, nearly 80% of the geopark is covered by limestone, high mountains and deep canyons, providing the area with a temperate climate ideal for trekking. In the 1920s, the French colonists set up one of the biggest fortresses in northern Vietnam at the highest point of the mountain dominating Dong Van town. The area is rich with history and geological wonders. You will stroll around the frontier between China and Vietnam, visiting remote villages living on the border, learning about the different aspects of the H’mong and Tay ethnic minority groups. One of the highlights will be the discovery of Thien Huong, a 100-year old village sitting on the mountainside with traditional Tay houses. You will return to Dong Van around 5pm, the end of the tour.

Exploring the rugged beauty of the karst landscape while trekking through charming villages was a highlight for us. We loved interacting with locals and learning about their unique cultures, although some parts of the trail were a bit more challenging than anticipated. Overall, it was a fantastic way to combine work with a little adventure, even if we wished for more time to soak in the scenery.

We had an amazing day trekking through the stunning karst plateau and visiting charming ethnic villages in Hà Giang. The landscape was breathtaking, with lush greenery and dramatic rock formations that made every step worthwhile. While the pace was a bit quick for our liking at times, the cultural insights and warm interactions with local villagers made it a memorable experience for us.

We appreciated the chance to immerse ourselves in the rich culture of the local ethnic villages during our trek. The karst plateau was stunning, and we found ourselves captivated by the unique landscapes as we wandered along the trails. One highlight was visiting a small village where we interacted with the friendly residents, learning about their traditions. There were times when the trek felt a bit challenging, especially for our younger family members, but it was manageable overall. The only downside was that the itinerary felt slightly rushed, leaving little time to fully explore some stops.
