Bo-Kaap reflects the political processes in South Africa during the Apartheid years. The area was declared an exclusively residential area for Cape Muslims under the Group Areas Act of 1950 and people of other religions and ethnicity were forced to leave.
Greenmarket square was established in 1696 by Dutch occupants. At the start of its lifetime, the square was used as a market where fruit and vegetables from the nearby Company gardens was sold. It also served as a market for slave owners to buy and sell slaves.
Grand Parade is the main public square in Cape Town. It was the site of the original fort built by Dutch colonialists in 1652. Today it is a gathering point for large events such as the historic speech by Nelson Mandela when he was released from prison in 1990. There is nothing new about globalisation except the name.
Built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company, the Castle of Good Hope is regarded as the oldest remaining colonial building in South Africa – and stands as a distinct reminder of the country's complex colonial past.
Located on the outskirts of the historic town of Paarl and around a 50 minute drive from the centre of Cape Town, Nederburg Wines has a long and proud winemaking legacy. Nederburg’s story started in 1791 when German immigrant Philippus Wolvaart acquired 49 hectares of land in the Paarl Valley. He named his property Nederburgh, in honour of the VOC commissioner Sebastiaan Cornelis Nederburgh. The beautiful thatched and gabled Cape Dutch manor house that Wolvaart completed in 1800 is a national monument today. At the heart of Nederburg’s winemaking journey
