The spice gardens in Sri Lanka sound like a sensory paradise! The blend of aromas from spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg must create a rich and welcoming atmosphere. I love how they showcase the traditional spice trade and offer visitors the chance to learn about the process from cultivation to harvest—it’s such an immersive experience.
The fact that these gardens are so closely tied to the island’s rich history of trade and culture adds depth to the visit. The chance to try meals prepared with fresh, aromatic spices sounds delicious. Have you had a chance to explore any spice gardens yet, or are you looking forward to experiencing them during your tour?
Sri Lanka is one of the highest producers of tea in the world and if you are traveling in Sri Lanka, visiting a tea plantation is a must. The best place to go is the hill country where the majority of the plantations are located. Giragama is one of the premium tea plantations in the country.
Giragama Tea plantation is located in the central province of Sri Lanka. It is the nearest plantation to Kandy. The Giragama tea plantation spreads across many hectares.
The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy is truly a remarkable and sacred site. It’s fascinating how deeply intertwined the history of the temple is with the spread of Buddhism across Sri Lanka and beyond. The fact that it houses the relic of the Buddha’s tooth makes it one of the most revered places for Buddhists worldwide, and the story behind the relocation of the relic through various capitals adds so much cultural and historical significance to the site.
The International Buddhist Museum nearby also sounds like an incredible place to explore the diversity and rich history of Buddhism, with contributions from so many countries. And the statue of Buddha in front of the museum is a striking tribute as well.
Have you visited Kandy before, or is this one of the places you're most excited to see during your tour?
