Full Day Nam Khan River Valley Bike and Elephant Riding
This full day tour takes you to some destinations. The time in each destination can be flexible as your request as long as it doesn’t affect the whole plan.
At the departure time, you will be greeted and picked up at your hotel’s lobby by an English speaking guide. You will be taken to the Tiger Trail’s bike shop to choose a good mountain bike for you coming adventurous journey.
You will start the journey by riding from the city center along the Nam Khan River. You first destination of the day is the Wat Pa Phon Phao or the the “Peacefulness Temple”. This Buddhist temple is located on a hill in the southeast of Luang Prabang and well-known for its huge golden stupa and an incredible view overlooking all of Luang Prabang.
Leaving the temple, you continue cycling on paved road through beautiful teakwood forests and rice fields. Then, you visit the resting place of Henri Mouhot, an Anglophile French naturalist who is widely known as the “discoverer” of Angkor Wat.
The highlight of the tour is elephant riding. You will experience this most desirable tourism activity in a magnificent landscape with a background of jungle covered mountains. After enjoy yourself with lovely elephants, you will have lunch in this beautiful setting.
Following the morning excursion and a delicious lunch, you restart the trip by embarking on a boat cruising to the stunnign Tad Sae Waterfall. Coming here, it’s optional that you either have a refreshing swimming or taking a short walk into the jungle to see baby elephants. Your choice will be made base on the time that you take the tour: rainy season from August to January for swimming and dry season from February to July for visiting baby elephants.
Then, you take the boat to return to the shore, hopping on bike, cycling through beautiful scenery on a new path back to Luang Prabang. The tour ends when you arrive at the Tiger Trail’s bike shop.
