Jomolhari Mountain Festival is an exquisitely themed two-day event celebrated at the base of Mt. Jomolhari by communities located along one of the most scenic trekking routes in Bhutan. The festival celebrates the culture of the communities living together with the natural wonders that surround them: one in particular is the elusive, yet elegant, snow leopard! This endangered cat thrives in the region; several camera trap photos and definite signs have established the region as one of the best snow leopard habitats in Bhutan.
12 Days 11 Nights Jomolhari Mountain Festival Trekking Tour takes the same trekking routes as Jomolhari Loop Trek. The only difference is you get to halt 2 extra days in Jangothang to mingle among the people who live a nomadic life herding yaks at an altitude ranging from 2,500 meters to nearly 5,000 meters and celebrate their 2-day annual Mountain Festival which offers great opportunity to explore and experience local culture and cuisine. The highlight of this trek is not only the fascinating mountain festival but also the spectacular view of majestic Mount Jomolhari from the Jomolhari basecamp accentuated by splendid landscapes, flora and fauna.

Experiencing the stunning mountain scenery and vibrant festival atmosphere was truly invigorating for us throughout the trek. While the overnight accommodations could have been a bit more comfortable, the breathtaking views made up for any minor inconveniences.

The breathtaking views of Jomolhari during the trek were nothing short of awe-inspiring, making each step feel like a reward. While the festival was vibrant and showcased incredible local culture, I did find the meals a bit repetitive after several days on the trail.

Our group had an incredible time immersing ourselves in the local culture while trekking through diverse landscapes. One of the highlights was reaching a high campsite where we enjoyed a clear night sky, making it the perfect backdrop for sharing stories and laughter. The accommodations were surprisingly comfortable, especially considering the remote setting, although we did experience some chilly nights that tested our gear. The festival we encountered mid-journey added a lively flair, showcasing traditional performances that brought our trek to life. If only the itinerary had allowed for a bit more time at the festival, we would’ve loved to explore it further. Overall, this adventure allowed us to connect not just with nature, but also with each other.

The trek to Jomolhari offered breathtaking views that exceeded our expectations, with each day revealing new peaks and valleys that felt like a glimpse into Bhutan’s soul. We cherished the nights spent under starry skies at cozy camps, soaking in the festival vibes that added a unique flavor to our journey. However, the longer treks were occasionally taxing for our younger ones, but the stunning landscapes made every effort worthwhile.
