$55
Duration
4 hours 45 minutes

Difficulty

The island of Gozo is the second largest island of the Maltese archipelago, although both islands are very similar in their history and development, upon setting foot on the island you will immediately notice that Gozo is far more rural than Malta and has its own unique character and atmosphere.

With an area measuring just 67 km² (about one fifth the size of Malta), it makes it possible to see most of its highlights in one or two days.

This private tour aims to give the best quality time to see the other side of Gozo in one day, focusing on natural spots and hidden gems, away from the typical touristic routes and large crowds, making it possible to enjoy and appreciate the natural beauty and charm of this island.

The tour is conducted at the desired pace of the clients, hence moving away from the limitations imposed when booking a group tour.

You can plan your own itinerary or alternatively you can leave it in our hands to plan your itinerary depending on your preferences, stamina, and priorities. The tour is overseen from beginning to end by a fully qualified botanist residing in Gozo, who knows the island’s highlights inside out.

Short walks of approximately 1 hour can be included in your itinerary (depending on your preferences), a lunch at one of the many charming restaurants found in Gozo can also be included in the programme (lunch is not included in the price).

This tour is specifically designed for solo explorers, couples, families, or small groups of friends (of not more than 4 persons). The main aim of this tour is to experience the best natural sites of Gozo, many of which are not accessible by bulky tourist buses, with the advantage of having personal and dedicated attention throughout the entire duration of the tour.

The vehicle used for the tour is spacious and can carry pushchairs or other gear, if required child seats can also be provided.

Step 1

Our licensed tour guide will meet you in front of the German Fountain, a beautifully crafted gift from Kaiser Wilhelm II to the Ottoman Empire. You’ll learn about its golden mosaics, Ottoman-German history, and the hidden symbolism in its design. This stop also sets the stage for exploring other nearby landmarks like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.

The Blue Mosque

also known as Sultanahmet Camii, is one of Istanbul’s most breathtaking monuments. With its six minarets and majestic domes, it dominates the skyline of the Old City. Inside, visitors are surrounded by thousands of handmade blue İznik tiles and intricate calligraphy. The mosque is still active, so you’ll witness its role in daily religious life while learning about its architectural brilliance and the legacy of Sultan Ahmet I. Modest clothing is required, and entry may be adjusted around prayer times.

Step 3

Discover Roman and Byzantine history at the ancient Hippodrome, once the social and political heart of Constantinople. Walk along the very grounds where chariot races, imperial ceremonies, and public gatherings took place for over a thousand years. You’ll see remarkable monuments like the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column, and the Walled Obelisk—each with its own fascinating story that reflects the city’s imperial past.

Step 4

Step into the world of the Ottoman sultans at Topkapı Palace, once the imperial residence and administrative center of the empire for over 400 years. Wander through lavish courtyards, marvel at intricate tilework, and explore opulent chambers filled with treasures, including the Prophet Muhammad’s relics and the famous Topkapı Dagger. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of the Bosphorus from the palace terraces. The optional Harem section offers a glimpse into the private lives of the sultans and their families.

Step 5

Explore the legendary Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul, a must-see UNESCO World Heritage Site that reflects over 1,500 years of history. Originally built as a Byzantine cathedral, later converted into an Ottoman mosque, and now functioning as a mosque again, Hagia Sophia blends Christian mosaics and Islamic calligraphy under one magnificent dome. Marvel at its massive columns, golden mosaics, and the sheer scale of its architecture as your guide explains its historical transformation through the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras. Entry is free, but respectful dress is required, and access may be restricted during prayer times. A highlight of any Istanbul historical walking tour.
