Itinerary
Arrive at Puerto Maldonado International Airport. Upon arrival, Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica lodge staff will be waiting to greet you at the airport and to transfer you to the river port. Board a boat that will take you on a 45-minute journey along the Madre de Dios River through the mystique of the jungle to the lodge. Check in to your room and enjoy lunch at the lodge before your embarking on your excursions. In the afternoon, walk through the extensive trail system surrounding the lodge and explore the varied vegetation, insects and birds before listening to a talk on the importance of the local ecosystem. Later in the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise along the Madre de Dios River to watch the sunset and to observe nocturnal species such as alligators, nightjars, capybaras and owls. Return to the lodge and, while sipping a welcoming cocktail over dinner, the lodge guides will give a presentation on the local flora and fauna.
Overnight in Reserva Amazónica
Wake up for an early breakfast in order to avoid the midday heat and to take full advantage of your time at the lodge. After breakfast, travel to Lake Sandoval in the Tambopata National Reserve. Glide in a wooden canoe across this oxbow-shaped lake and true wildlife-watching haven. Surrounded by lush vegetation, Lake Sandoval is home to thousands of species of birds, diverse marine life and many endangered species such as the giant river otter, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas and side-neck turtles. At midday, return to the lodge for lunch. Then, later in the afternoon, visit the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center, a network of seven 45-meter high suspension bridges through the jungle. Spend an hour and a half literally walking through the treetops looking out for different varieties of trees, orchids, toucans, woodpeckers and, hopefully, birds of prey, sloths and various species of monkeys. In the evening, enjoy dinner at the lodge and a presentation on the Amazon.

Venturing into the heart of the reserve was a refreshing escape from our usual business routines, and the wildlife encounters were genuinely memorable, from vibrant birds to curious monkeys. While the accommodations provided a unique experience, we found the lack of modern amenities a bit challenging after long days of exploration.

We had an incredible time exploring the lush wilderness and its vibrant wildlife during our three-day adventure. One standout moment was spotting a family of capybaras lounging by the river while we were out kayaking; it felt like a scene straight from a documentary. The accommodations were comfortable and gave us a chance to really connect with nature, though the food could have offered a bit more variety for such an immersive experience.
