Surrounded by steep, forested cliffs, Empakaai Crater is less famous than Ngorongoro Crater, but its beauty is spectacular. The turquoise lake, which occupies most of the crater bottom, attracts flamingos and waterfowl.
Empakaai is home to hyenas, blue monkeys and even elephants. On clear days, standing at imposing rim of Empakaai Crater, we can see Ol Doinyo Lengai, one of the youngest active volcanoes in the world.

Accompanied by an armed ranger, we will trek to the crater and walk near the lake at the bottom of Empakai.
