Alexander Nevski square
The meeting point of the tour is behind Alexander Nevski Cathedral, at the parking lot just in front of "La Cattedrale" restaurant.
Arrival to Borovets resort
The transfer from Sofia to Borovets is about an hour and a half. Borovets is the oldest ski resort in Bulgaria. From there we will take the cabin lift "Yastrebets Express" for about 30 mins to reach the peak of Yastrebets (2369 m/7772.31 ft). This is the starting point of our walk to the Musala peak.
Rila Mountains
During the hike to the Musala Peak, fabulous vistas will open in front of you. Musala is the highest peak on the Balkan Peninsula and some say that in clear weather, even the Aegean Sea can be seen from there.

The climb to the summit of Musala was exhilarating, and the views from the top were simply stunning. I particularly loved the moment I reached the peak and took in the vastness of the Balkans stretching out below me—truly a sight to behold. The only suggestion I have is to maybe include a bit more time for breaks during the trek; I would have loved to soak in the scenery even longer.

From the moment we boarded the early morning transport, the excitement was palpable as we anticipated the challenge ahead. The climb offered not just a test of endurance but also stunning vistas that unfolded with every step, revealing the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding ranges. At one memorable point, we paused to catch our breath and take in the panoramic views; the sight of the valleys below draped in mist was nothing short of enchanting. The camaraderie developed among our group added to the experience, as we encouraged each other on the final stretch to the summit. While the guides were knowledgeable and supportive, it would have been great to have a bit more time at the top to soak in the serenity. Overall, this adventure was a highlight, providing a perfect blend of physical challenge and awe-inspiring scenery. The memories created during this trek will stay with us long after we’ve returned to our busy lives.

The trek to Musala was absolutely breathtaking, as every turn offered stunning views that made the climb worth every effort. I just wish the transportation back to Borovets had been a bit more organized, but the experience of standing at the peak was unforgettable.
