Day 1 ARRIVAL IQUITOS – NAUTA PORT – PERUVIAN AMAZON (1.5hr by land / 1.5hrs by boat)

After landing at Iquitos International Airport, a representative will meet and greet you before guiding you to the transport to the lodge. Upon arrival at Tree House Lodge, you can explore the Amazon up close. Savour lunch and dinner at the lodge. Choose from four to six "a la carte" activities according to your interest (All excursions last between 2 to 3 hours depending on the water level and weather conditions):

Sunrise and birdwatching: enjoy the sunrise over the horizon of the Amazon rainforest. The suspension bridges are built to bring you closer to all the wildlife that exists around the lodge. You will see many species of tanagers, toucans, parrots, parakeets, antbirds, ant wrens, and monkeys that come to feed on the fruit and insects found on the trees.

Sunset in the Amazon with the dolphins: just before nightfall, navigate the Yarapa and Ucayali rivers until you reach the Amazon. Pink and grey river dolphins will begin to appear near the boat while the sunset offers the perfect backdrop to welcome dusk.

Swim in the Amazon River: take the time you want to enjoy a refreshing dip in the largest river in America.

Canoe trip: for centuries, river people have moved along Amazonian rivers in canoes. Even today, this means of transport is the best way to explore the streams: sailing slowly, listening to the sounds of the jungle and observing nature, trying to imitate the exact way in which the riverside sees the forest.

Piranha fishing: travel by boat to one of the many piranha fishing sites in the area. You will find wooden poles with thread and bait on board. When the piranha bites, you lift the pole and voila! Do not worry; we will recover the fish for you.

Workshop of blowguns: the natives of the Amazon rainforest have depended on hunting with blowguns, or ‘pucuna’ in Peru, for hundreds of years. Expert hunters can use blowguns to hunt animals from a distance of 60 to 90 feet. During this excursion, a local villager advises you on how to make your own blowgun.

Jungle walk - Medicinal plants of the Amazon: the rainforest is like a green pharmacy where you can find many plants that are used to treat different diseases. On this excursion, explore the vegetation in search of medicinal plants, approach Mother Nature and learn the secrets of the jungle.

Jungle walk - the giant Victoria’s giants of the Oxbow lagoon: participate in a fascinating hike to this isolated lagoon, formerly part of the river. It houses many species of aquatic plants, such as giant water lilies that can grow up to 6 feet in diameter with huge flowers, and also birds, such as the hoacín, a bird that feeds exclusively on poisonous plants, among others.

Jungle walk - night monkeys and more: join this hike to witness the only night monkey that can be observed during the day. These primates make their homes in the holes of the trees and peek out to look around. On this hike, there is also the possibility that you can see: owl monkeys, pygmy marmoset, saki monk, squirrel, red howler, titi duski, woolly monkey and tamarins.

Daytime jungle cruise: embark on an adventurous boat ride on the Yarapa and Cumaceba rivers. Observe nature in its entire splendour while we look for blue and yellow macaws, jacanas, trogons, black-collar hawks, oropendolas, yellow-faced faces, lazy bears, and monkeys, among others.

Jungle night cruise: If you enjoy the river by day, imagine the life that awakens at night. Travel along the river, looking for wildlife with flashlights. You can see creatures like frogs of beautiful colours resting on the floating plants at the edges of the streams; fishing boats that catch their prey using their claws; Owls as they venture into the dark and more.

Staying in the treehouse lodge was surreal, especially waking up to the sounds of the jungle and seeing dolphins swim nearby. However, the rainy weather did limit some exploring, but the evening bonfire made up for it with great stories shared among fellow travelers.
