Next to the Souq is Nizwa Fortress, the Fort is a museum today and offers splendid views of this ancient town and the surrounding mountains, you can walk around in this impressive Fortress and visit its many rooms, passages, and towers, the Fort is an architectural testimony to the economic and military achievements of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century, it was a military stronghold designed to withstand even the strongest of attacks at the time, even along the corridors, many traps were laid to deter any intruders that might have penetrated the defenses.
From Nizwa we drive up to Misfah Al Abreyeen, this picturesque village lies on a steep slope at the foot of Jebel Shams and consists of old homes and narrow streets, it has a falaj system for many orchards, date palms, and vegetables, it’s worth spending some time walking around the village, then continue your trip to visit the ancient town of Al Hamra.

I had a fantastic time on this multi-day adventure, immersing myself in the rich history and stunning scenery of the region. The camping experience felt incredibly authentic, especially at my cozy accommodations where I could hear the whispers of the wind during the night. During the days, I relished exploring the unique landscapes and cultural marvels; the remnants of ancient architecture left me in awe. The only downside was that some parts of the itinerary felt a bit rushed, making me wish I could linger a little longer. Overall, this experience was a wonderful blend of adventure and relaxation, making me eager to return for more exploration.

Camping under the vast expanse of stars in the Empty Quarter was a breathtaking experience that our group will never forget. Exploring the ancient charm of Nizwa by day and then gathering around the fire at night, we truly felt the magic of Oman’s landscapes. While the itinerary was packed with adventure, a bit more downtime would have been nice to soak in the serene beauty of the Haqaf region.

Exploring the diverse landscapes of Nizwa and the surrounding areas was an absolute highlight of my adventure camping trip. The accommodations were comfortable, offering a nice blend of rustic charm and essential amenities, which made my nights in the empty quarter quite pleasant. While I loved the chance to immerse myself in the local culture, some days felt a bit rushed, leaving me wishing for more time to explore certain spots more thoroughly.
