A Private Day Tour to Shahdag and Candy Cane Mountains

$398
Duration
9 hours 30 minutes
Difficulty

A one-day journey from Baku to the Shahdag Mountain Resort and the Candy Cane Mountains reveals the most striking landscapes of northern Azerbaijan. The Greater Caucasus reaches elevations exceeding 2,500 meters, creating subalpine and alpine climatic zones with crisp, low-humidity air and clear visibility. Shahdag offers expansive ski terrain alongside a range of high-altitude activities, including cable car rides, zip-lining, paragliding and ice skating, all set within a dramatic mountainous environment.
The route continues toward the Candy Cane Mountains, a unique geological formation recognized for its vividly striped sedimentary layers. These multicolored strata, primarily composed of iron oxide-rich claystones and siltstones, reflect mineral oxidation processes that occurred over millions of years.
The journey concludes with a return to Baku, following an extensive observation of Azerbaijan’s most extraordinary highland and geomorphological features.

On the way to Gusar -Shahdag

we stop in front of the Beshbarmag”, a 382-metre high mountain whose bizarre shape long ago led to it being called "Five-finger Mountain". This is one of the unique natural sites of Azerbaijan, is surrounded by a number of historical and cultural sites such as the settlement attributed to the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age, the Khizirzinda sanctuary, the ruins of a fortress dating back to the early Middle Ages and the remains of a caravanserai of the 15-17th centuries).

Step 2

The Shahdag Mountain Resort Complex (Şahdağ Turizm Merkezi) opened to the public in 2012. It is located in the Azerbaijan's Greater Caucasus range, the site is located near Shahdag National Park, which is known for having an intact ecological system and an untouched flora and fauna.
With an impressive altitude range of 1,435 to 2,525 meters, it offers the perfect playground for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. This winter wonderland boasts a generous passenger capacity, with the capability to accommodate 25,000 skiers per hour. A network of 17 lifts ensures swift and convenient access to the slopes, making it an ideal destination for anyone seeking the thrill of the slopes amidst the stunning backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains.

Here, the activities last 2-3 hours. Taking into account that the round trip by car to Shahdag is 6 to 7 hours in total and the road conditions, the total duration of the tour can vary between 8-11 hours.
