Chefchaouen’s Grande Mosque was built on the orders of Moulay Mohamed Ben Ali Ben Rachid, the son of the city’s founder. It features an octagonal minaret, which is somewhat unusual when compared to the many square minarets that generally tower over the nation’s myriad mosques. The shape was influenced by Andalusian styles, brought to the country by Muslims from Spain. Talassemtane is part of the Transcontinental Biosphere Reserve of the Mediterranean.It is a very original territory characterized by unique biodiversity and landscapes.

This area preserves the only Moroccan fir trees, which are the heart of Talassemtane and the areas with the highest level of protection in the whole of park.
More than 1,380 plant species have been recorded in the park, of which 47 are endemic to Morocco.
