Stop 1
Langkawi, often called Kedah’s gem, gets its name from the red-backed sea eagle that dominates the island’s skies. According to folklore, the term ‘Lang’ is derived from the Malay word ‘helang’, signifying Eagle. ‘Kawi’ comes from a word that means marble or reddish brown. A group of reddish-brown Eagles flying high in the sky adds to the legend and symbol of Langkawi. In Malay, ‘Dataran’ means square, leading us to English’s magnificent ‘Dataran Lang’ or Eagle Square.
Maha Tower Langkawi
Maha Tower Langkawi is an architectural marvel standing 138m tall, a beacon in Langkawi City's masterplan as the island's premiere destination for business, leisure, and entertainment. This towering structure illuminates the city with its distinctive attractions and waterfront delights, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Langkawi and establishing itself as the vibrant new pulse of the island.
Durian Perangin waterfall
Durian Perangin waterfall is situated on the north eastern part of Langkawi and doesn’t smell or taste like Durian at all. The name is a result of the tall durian trees that grow in the forests near the waterfall. Durian Perangin is a multi-tiered waterfall and each cascade makes a freshwater pool at its base. It is slanted towards the northern part of Gunung Raya, the highest mountain peak in Langkawi. The waterfall is surrounded by intriguing rock formations and dense forest. The water of Durian Perangin is cool and refreshing which makes it a popular spot among locals for picnics or a quiet day away.
Tanjung Rhu Beach
Tanjung Rhu Beach is one of the clearest and cleanest beaches in the entire country of Malaysia. This beautiful beach has white sands with emerald blue waters, rightfully owning its title as one of the cleanest beaches of the Langkawi island chain. Away from much commercialization, this beach is a home for relaxation and light-hearted activities. Frequently used as a place for picnics and staycations, Tunjung Rhu Beach is also known as the Bird watcher’s paradise possessing 20 different species.
Tanjung Rhu is one of the most famous Langkawi beaches. Well, rightly deserved so, the way to this beach takes tourists through dense forests. The beach has crystal clear water and refined, powder-like sand that serves as a perfect picnic destination. It remains secluded and away from the city hustle, thus providing a peaceful ambience for visitors. If you ask for the highly recommended beaches in Langkawi, Tanjung Rhu Beach is the one.
