It was one of the most important cities of the ancient world, famous for the Temple of Artemis — one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — as well as its grand theater, Celsus Library, and well-preserved streets and houses.

The House of the Virgin Mary in Selçuk is a sacred Christian site believed to be the final home of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. It is a peaceful stone house on Mount Koressos, visited by both Christians and Muslims for prayer and pilgrimage.
