Itinerary

Day 1 Baku City
  • Gobustan & Mud-Volcanoes Tour

    Begin your 1st day with a warm welcome from your local guide and driver at your hotel or the airport. The tour kicks off with a deep dive into the rich heritage and cultural splendor of Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan. Today you will start to explore from Baku Old City (Icherisheher) - the heart of ancient Baku with a guided walking tour through the Old City (Icherisheher) - a UNESCO World Heritage Site such as Maiden Tower (Qız Qalası) - a mysterious 12th-century monument with panoramic views of the Old City and Caspian Sea from the top. Also will visit Shirvanshah’s Palace - a medieval royal complex showcasing Islamic architecture and Azerbaijani heritage and historic Caravanserais and mosques – glimpses of Silk Road-era trade culture. Tour will continues to the world-renowned Carpet Museum, housed in a building shaped like a rolled carpet. The museum exhibits centuries of weaving traditions, regional patterns, and contemporary interpretations of carpet art.

    The 2nd half of the day tour is Gobustan National Park & Mud Volcanoes Excursion. Head south of Baku (~1 hour drive) to Gobustan National Park, where you will discover Gobustan Rock Art Museum - featuring more than 6,000 prehistoric rock engravings dating back over 40,000 years; Open-air Petroglyph Reserve - walk among carvings depicting hunting scenes, rituals, and early human life; Mud Volcanoes - a geological phenomenon unique to Azerbaijan (home to nearly half of the world’s mud volcanoes). Watch bubbling mud pools and miniature eruptions in a lunar-like landscape.

    The 1st day tour is completed with Panoramic Evening Tour of Baku. Return to Baku for a scenic drive through the city as the sun sets. You will visit Highland Park offering panoramic views of the city, Flame Towers, and Baku Bay. Three Flame Towers – Modern skyscrapers that light up dramatically after dark; Upland Park Martyrs’ Alley - A place of national pride and remembrance with views over the Caspian Sea.
    Enjoy an optional dinner at a traditional Azerbaijani restaurant featuring local dishes like dolma, kebabs, and plov, along with folk music and ambient interiors (can be arranged in advance).

    Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel in Baku before checking out. Depart from Baku towards Sheki, one of Azerbaijan's most picturesque regions. En route, explore the historical and spiritual landmarks of Shamakhi and Gabala. A short stop in Maraza to visit the mystical Diri Baba Mausoleum, a 15th-century structure built into a cliffside. This tomb of a Sufi saint blends religious legend with striking Islamic architecture.

    Next, explore the historic Juma Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in the Caucasus (originally built in the 8th century). The mosque stands as a symbol of Islamic history in Azerbaijan and has been beautifully restored after several earthquakes.

    Visit the Yeddi Gumbaz, a necropolis of the Shirvan Dynasty. Only three of the seven mausoleums remain intact today, but they stand as an important legacy of the region’s past rulers.

Begin with a guided tour of the magnificent Sheki Khan’s Palace, a stunning 18th-century residence known for its intricate stained glass (Shebeke) windows, vivid frescoes, and wooden carvings. Visit the ABAD Ceramics and Applied Arts Center, where local artisans showcase traditional and modern ceramic works. Learn about Azerbaijani craftsmanship and possibly purchase a handmade souvenir. Explore the town’s history at this museum, located in a former nobleman’s mansion. Exhibits cover everything from archaeology and textiles to the local way of life. Watch local artisans create the delicate Shebeke -a traditional stained glass and wood lattice art without the use of nails or glue.
