Metropolitan Cathedral

It was built, according to the plans of the Spanish architect Claudio de Arciniega who was inspired by Spanish cathedrals, around a church that was erected on the site shortly after the Spanish conquest of Tenochtitlán. The works began in 1573, concluded inside in 1667 and outside until 1813

This street has always been one of the busiest and busiest thoroughfares since colonial times. Its layout is due to the Spanish Alonso García Bravo, so it is also the first streets to be laid out over the new Spanish city, over the ruins of the ancient pre-Hispanic city of México-Tenochtitlán.

Its name has changed over time, due to the nomenclature applied and the designation of streets that was made to trades or guilds. In this way, in the section between the current Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas (San Juan del Letrán at that time) and Bolívar, it was called 1st. and 2nd of San Francisco; between Bolívar and Isabel la Católica, as Calle de la Profesa; and between Isabel la Católica and Plaza de la Constitución, such as Paseo de Plateros, a name that rescues and evokes the vocation of this street as a favorite place to stroll through its commercial variety
