Tour Plan

The guide will come and take you to the hotel and the tour starts from the center of Tirana.

First we will stop at Scanderbeg Square where we will visit the National History Museum, the Opera House and then continue to visit and learn the fascinating stories of the National Hero of Skanderbeg, visit the Etemhem Bey Mosque and the Clock Tower.

A few meters away from Scanderbeg Square is the underground bunker Bunkart 2, turned into a museum telling the fascinating stories of communist times. We will see traces of communism again on the entry of the Block where there are symbolically a war bunker, part of the holders of the infamous Spac mine and part of the Berlin Wall (Gifts from the German government)

Inside the block area, we will also see dictator Enver Hoxha's house, without having the opportunity to visit inside as it is not open to the public and continue our visit to another very interesting museum: the Hause of Leaves , a building where at the time of communism served as the main place where the state intelligence service spied on its citizens.

Time to take a few minutes from downtown to another area of Tirana. In the Dajti area is another museum : Bunkart 1 museum, an anti-nuclear bunker site that dictator Enver Hoxha built on the outskirts of Tirana. The idea was to shelter the elite of the Communist leadership in case there was a nuclear attack in Albania. Already a museum bunker, where there is much to see and hear!

Our family spent an enlightening afternoon exploring the rich tapestry of Tiranë’s history through its food and communist legacy. We ventured through vibrant neighborhoods, tasting local delicacies like delicious byrek and fresh olive oil while our guide shared fascinating stories about the city’s past. The sites we visited were iconic, each steeped in layers of history that painted a vivid picture of the communist era. The transportation was smooth, and we appreciated being able to easily move from one location to another. However, at times, the pace felt a bit rushed, and we would have loved a little more time to soak in the atmosphere at each stop. Still, the mix of culture, cuisine, and history made for a memorable outing that our family won’t forget. Overall, it was a unique way to experience the heartbeat of this place.

Exploring the rich history and iconic sites in this vibrant city was a highlight for us. The local dishes we tasted along the way, particularly the savory burek, were delicious, though some of the historical explanations felt a bit rushed.

We had a fantastic time immersing ourselves in the flavors and stories of Tiranë on this food and history journey. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable, weaving together tales of the city’s communist past while introducing us to delicious local dishes, from savory burek to sweet baklava. Exploring iconic sites like the National History Museum gave us a deeper understanding of Albania’s complex heritage. However, we found the pacing a bit uneven, especially when it came to the food stops, which felt slightly rushed at times. Overall, it was a memorable experience that combined great food with captivating history.
