Free time for swimming, walking on the beach, and water activities. Praia Preta offers shade under the trees and into the beach flows a river that forms a small lake of fresh and cold water, excellent for a refreshing and relaxing sea bath. The ruins of a huge complex of pavilions that operated from 1886 to 1913 as a hospital for quarantining foreign immigrants (called Lazareto), are located in the central part of Praia Preta. This place was chosen by Dom Pedro II and, in 1939, it was used by the corps of marines and from 1940 to 1954 it functioned as a prison for common prisoners of which only a large stone wall rises from the sand of the beach, covered with vegetation under a concrete slab, under which are some prison cells. Some other isolated walls can be seen within the nearby woods.
Departure from Praia Preta and navigation towards Enseada de Palmas on Ilha Grande.
🏚️ Accommodation: Dinner on board and overnight in Palmas.
Day 3: Lopes Mendes, Araçatiba and Ilha da Cotia
Breakfast on board and departure towards Lopes Mendes, one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. Arrive in Lopes Mendes, disembark at the beach, and depart for a 40-minute walk or 1h20 on a flatter alternative path. One of the most beautiful beaches on the entire Brazilian coast is on Ilha Grande and is called Lopes Mendes. The most famous beach on the island is located on the ocean coast, facing the South, with approximately 3 km of white sand, very fine and firm. Lopes Mendes’ sea always seems agitated, suitable for surfing, so it is the beach where this sport is the most practiced. It is a shallow beach and the transparency of the water is impressive, as well as its variety of shades. Lopes Mendes was already very inhabited by the Caiçara community when the Penal Colony of Dois Rios experienced its peak, but today it is an almost deserted beach with a lot of natural shade from the almond trees that are on its edge. After enjoying Lopes Mendes Beach, board the Enterprise and we will sail in the direction of Enseada de Araçatiba for lunch. Lunch and onboard and rest time. We are now heading towards Ilha da Cotia, in Paraty, to enjoy a beautiful beach and enjoy the rest of the afternoon. with landing on the beach. The charming Ilha da Cotia is a haven of clear and calm waters. The view is among the most beautiful in Paraty. The sand is an invitation to rest, as well as the pitanga trees that occupy the seaside. The path between Praia de Fora and Praia de Dentro is only 30 meters. An invitation to leisure and encounter with nature!
🏚️ Accommodation: Dinner on board and overnight in Enseada da Cotia.
Day 4: Saco do Mamanguá and Disembark in Paraty
Departure from Enseada da Cotia at dawn with navigation to the Saco do Mamanguá. Breakfast onboard overlooking the Sugarloaf Mountain of Mamanguá.
Saco do Mamanguá is a unique landscape in Brazil! It is a fjord, that is, a large sea entrance surrounded by high rocky mountains, something common in Scandinavian countries. The greenish sea continues for 8 km, forming 33 small beaches, hiding waterfalls, and harboring several species of marine animals. It has a very indented coast, forming 33 small sandy beaches interconnected by rocky shores, five small parcels of stones, and two islands. The hills and mountains that surround the Mamanguá are occupied by the Atlantic Rainforest at different stages of development and by small areas of crops close to the caiçaras nuclei. The small rivers that form there flow directly onto the beaches or on the small plains of the bottom, determining the formation of wetlands and a well-maintained mangrove system. These mangroves are associated with areas of an intense accumulation of mud and sand, forming the silt shoals. This coastal environment belongs to the domain of the Atlantic Forest and consists of the integration of different forest ecosystems, mangroves, and a tropical estuary. It is a type of place that, when visiting, one has the feeling that time should stop and that everything should remain exactly like this, with its unique beauty.
Lunch and disembark in the late afternoon at Marina do Engenho in Paraty. After disembarking between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm, meeting with the driver at the port for the transfer to Rio de Janeiro airport or center.
