🏁 Tour Itinerary: 7 Night Luxury Experience – Unlock Uruguay’s Soul

Day 1: Welcome to Uruguay

Arrive at Carrasco International Airport, meet with the driver, then head straight to your Boutique Hotel in the upmarket neighborhood of Carrasco. If arriving early you will have time to check in and have lunch. The rest of the day is at your own leisure. We recommend taking a walk through the upmarket neighborhood. Enjoy a welcome sunset drink followed by a romantic dinner with wine.

🏚️ Alquimista Boutique Hotel in the upmarket neighborhood of Carrasco.

Day 2: Full Wine Day with Montevideo City Tour

After breakfast enjoys a Full Day Trip to see the Best Sights & Attractions of Montevideo. Enjoy a Wine Paired Lunch at a family winery in the heart of the Canelones wine region. You will be received by a wine expert at the winery, who will take you to the vineyards, winery, cellar, and packaging room followed by tasting many delicious wines with gourmet dishes facing the vineyard in a fun interactive atmosphere. This is more of an educational experience, where you will learn about Uruguay wines. This is a great opportunity to taste Tannat, Uruguay’s flagship grape. After many laughs and fond memories head back to the hotel. Enjoy a sunset drink at the hotel followed by dinner with more Uruguay wines.

Day 3: Full Day Trip to Colonia del Sacramento

After breakfast travel to Colonia del Sacramento, where you will visit a world heritage site. Stop at Nueva Helvecia, formerly known as Colonia Suiza, where the residents have maintained their Swiss traditions to this day. Make another stop at Plaza de Toros de San Carlos, a former bullring. The arena hosted a total of eight fights before bullfighting was prohibited by the Uruguayan National Government in 1912. This is a landmark site in Uruguay. The next stop will be the Historic Plaza near the Old Fort, a world heritage site. You can then enjoy lunch at your leisure. We will recommend a nice place. Return to Montevideo with time to relax followed by dinner with wine.

Day 4: Montevideo – Piriapolis – Casapueblo – Sacromonte Wine Lodge

After breakfast at the hotel, check-out, and head towards Punta del Este. Stop at a new winery in Piriapolis, where you will have a very scenic walk through their coastal vineyards followed by a complete wine tasting with a light lunch (plates of cheeses, cured hams, empanadas, and snacks). This winery produces delicious fresh wines just 3km from the ocean. Savor the taste of many wines, including Albariño, Viognier, and Tannat. Next stop will be Casapueblo, constructed by Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró. It is located in Punta Ballena, 13 kilometres from Punta del Este. Initially, it was the artist’s summer home and workshop, and now includes a museum, an art gallery, a cafeteria, and a hotel in its facilities. There is time for a coffee or drink on the terrace before making your way to your super luxury accommodation. Check-in around 3:30 pm at Sacromonte Wine Lodge your luxury accommodation for 4 nights, which featured in Travel & Leisure, Conde Nast Traveller, The Times UK, Wallpaper, and been on the cover of TIME magazine. Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, then free time to relax. Each shelter will have its own golf cart to use. Dinner with wine will be served at your shelter.

🏚️ Sacromonte Wine Lodge

Day 5: Full Day Experience at Sacromonte

After breakfast in your shelter, enjoy a Full Day experience at Sacromonte. Explore the property on your private golf cart. Visit the chapel at the top of the vineyard, then by foot take a small hike up to the panoramic lookout followed by a lovely walk through the brook, which is a small forest and stream surrounded by trees. Upon returning to your shelter take a dip in the splash pool. Have lunch with wine that will be served at the top of the hill with breathtaking views. Before sunset, go horse riding through the vineyards. Dinner will then be served at the shelter with some wine.

Day 6: Punta del Este Sightseeing & Winery Lunch

You will get to see playa Mansa, the peninsula, lighthouse, and port area including the famous hand out of the sand called La Mano, where you can stop to take pictures. You then have free time to do some sightseeing or spend time at the beach. Head to the beach town of La Barra and visit a small winery in the countryside, which makes excellent wines including some Tannat. Have a Gourmet Lunch with wines and enjoy beautiful views of the vineyard. The winery makes its own artisanal cheeses, bread, olive oil, jams, cured hams, pasta, dulce de leche (known as caramel), grappa, and wine, so the perfect place to buy gifts. Head to Pablo Atchugarry’s Museum, famous for his abstract sculptural art. In the afternoon the driver will take you back to Sacromonte with many fond memories. Time to relax and freshen up followed by dinner at the shelter with some wine.

The next stop will be the sleepy village of Pueblo Garzon, where you can take some pictures. Enjoy a Wine Paired Lunch at Bodega Garzon with beautiful views of the vineyards, which won Best Winery in the Southern Hemisphere. You will then head back to Sacromonte with many fond memories. Ryan is a wonderful host! He is super knowledgeable about wine as well as the locations he took me. He’s a great conversationalist and did an excellent job with providing an amazing wine tasting experience! So far, I have had two wine tasting experiences with Ryan and am hoping I can do one more before I leave Uruguay. If you like adventure and going a little off the beaten path, Ryan is your guy.

My friends and I had a great time with The Wine Experience. Ryan was incredibly communicative before, during, and after our trip. In addition to communicating with us about all the necessary information re: pick-up (we stayed in an Airbnb and they picked us up right in front of where we were staying), he gave us tips and advice for things to do during the rest of our stay. We must have gotten at least 15 recommendations of food and things to do, and all the ones we tried were fantastic.

Our driver, Matias, was friendly and punctual, and we got to sit with him during our tasting and lunch. The wine tour itself was very educational, and everyone spoke amazing English. There was no shortage of wine – there was a glass of sparkling wine waiting for us when we got there, and they were generous about extra pours during the tasting. The food was phenomenal, and each course came with it’s own wine pairing. The vineyard also had a list of where their wines were sold in the US, so you didn’t feel obligated to buy a bottle and travel with it.

From first contact with Ryan, he is very attentive, responsive and will adapt to what type of tour you are looking for. Uruguay is awesome and I cannot wait to plan another trip there, but this time with a wine tour or two with Ryan!! See you soon 🙂

We were so lucky to find Ryan and the The Wine Experience while visiting Montevideo. We were last minute to search for a winery tour and Ryan was prompt to reply and invite us to a tour he was leading the next day. Ryan is a gifted tour leader, kept the group entertained during the ride to the country and is a great story teller. The winery Ryan took us to visit was exquisite, the wine wonderful and the food paring impressive!
