🏁 Tour Itinerary: Guided Tour of Sicily – Agrigento Noto Ragusa Modica

Day 1: Destinazioni del Giorno Caltagirone

Pick-up and hotel check-in. You will be welcomed by your tour guide at the airport of Catania or Palermo, or in the city center of Messina. On the day of arrival the guided tour of Sicily will starts with the visit of Caltagirone, with the Public Gardens, the Staircase Santa Maria del Monte, the Church Santa Maria Della Scala, the Cathedral of Saint Julian, baroque noble palaces along the way and we will experience the production of Sicilian ceramics visiting a workshop. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

 

Day 2: Villa Romana del Casale e Agrigento

Breakfast in the hotel. During the morning we will visit Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, a beautiful example in Sicily of Roman Domus, an elegant residence enriched by well-preserved mosaics of the late imperial age. The guided tour of Sicily continues with a guided walking tour in the city center of Agrigento, where you will visit the Cathedral of Saint Gerlando, the Church Santa Maria Dei Greci, the Church of Saint Lawrence, and the Basilica of Immacolata. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

 

Day 3: Temple Valley Agrigento and Favara

Breakfast in the hotel. Our guided tour of Sicily includes the visit to the Archaeological Park of the Temple Valley Agrigento, where you will experience the majesty of the Greek temples of the colony of Akragas, a step back to the VI-V century B.C. In the afternoon we will experience Favara, located in the province of Agrigento, and the Farm Cultural Park to visit temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

 

Day 4: Sicily baroque: Ragusa Ibla and Modica

Breakfast in the hotel. The fourth day of our guided tour of Sicily is dedicated to Sicily baroque towns: in the morning we will visit the attractions of Ragusa Ibla: Giardini Iblei, Portal of the Church of Saint George, the Town Hall, the main churches, and noble palaces, the Palace of the Chancery, the Cathedral dedicated to the Patron Saint George. In the afternoon we will move to Modica, where to visit the Cathedral Churches of Saint Peter and Saint George, and the Church of Carmine with a fine portal in gothic style. Also, we will visit a local chocolatier to taste the delicious chocolate of Modica. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

 

Day 5: Noto and Siracusa – Ortigia

Breakfast in the hotel. In the morning we will have a tour of Noto, known as “the stone garden”, seduced by its Sicily baroque, found in churches and buildings located along the main street Corso Vittorio Emanuele: Porta Reale, standing at the entrance of the city center, the Church of San Francesco all Immaculata, the Monastery of Santa Chiara, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Nicholas, Palace Ducezio and the noble palaces. Then we move to Syracuse visiting the oldest part of the town included in Ortigia: our tour guide will lead a walking tour visiting the Temple of Apollo, the Fountain of Diana, the Cathedral or Temple of Minerva, the Church of Santa Lucia Alla Badia, the Fountain Aretusa and Maniace Castle. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

 

Day 6: Syracuse

Breakfast in hotel, check-out. The last day on tour will be spent visiting Syracuse with the Archaeological Park of Neapolis with the largest Greek theatre of the island and the Orecchio di Dionisio (Ear of Dionysius), famous because of its sound amplification and echo produced by the stone walls. We will discover the Latomie dei Cappuccini which are caves of stone carved out since the Greek colonization in order to take limestone rocks to create monuments and buildings. Transfer to the airport (or city center of Messina).

    First, our guide was Mariarita and she was delightful and well-versed in the area. The tour locations were spectacular. To fully enjoy them, prepare for some significant walking and climbing stairs.
