🏁 Tour Itinerary: The Splendid Baobabs and Tsingy

Day 1 – Arrival at Antananarivo

Upon your arrival at the international airport of Ivato-Antananarivo meet your experienced English tour guide at the customs area. After clearing from immigration and customs, we will transfer you to your hotel in Antananarivo and you can rest and prepare yourself for your amazing 11 days at Madagascar Tours!

Day 2 – Antananarivo – Antsirabe (B, D)

After having breakfast, check out the hotel and then drive to Antsirabe through the mountains, the hills, and the rice fields. On the way, you will see many burial tombs, some simple; others elaborate which play an important role in the local people and their fascination with the afterlife. Arrived in Antsirabe after 03 hours’ drive: the thermal station, “the water city» as it is called; it has become a very important economic city, famous for its fresh products and its mineral water, commonly called “Visy Gasy”. The town is well known as well on the numerous rickshaws and on precious and semi-precious stones. Check-in the hotel and after you will be free on your own to check the places around your hotel.

Day 3 – Antsirabe – Morondava (B, D)

Breakfast at the hotel ends then a long drive to Morondava the capital of the Sakalava tribe. Crossing the Savannah, mountain it`s possible to stop for photography. Arrival at the end of the afternoon, Evening walk before the dinner, chance on nocturnal species of animals (Mouse lemur, Madame Berthe`s mouse lemur, Forkmarked lemur).

Day 4 – Morondava – Belo – Bekopaka (B, L, D)

After having breakfast in the morning, you can spot the White-breasted Mesite, Coquerel’s Coua, Crested Coua, Madagascar Cuckoo-roller before heading to Bekopaka. On our way to Bekopaka, we are crossing the river Tsiribihina with a ferryboat. Having lunch at Belo Sur Tsiribihin and we will reach in the early evening and check-in at your hotel.

Day 5 – Small Tsingy & Big Tsingy  (B, D)

Breakfast at the hotel and head in to visit a small Tsingy with the traditional canoe. There will be a chance to spot Decken`s sifaka, Red-fronted Brown Lemur, Crested Coua, Madagascar Green Pigeon, Heron, Madagascar Fish Eagle, Madagascar Harrier Hawk, Madagascar Pygmy Kingfisher, Madagascar Magpie-robin, Crested Drongo.
After taking some rest, we continue for 6 hours visit to the big Tsingy, The UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Tsingy of Bemaraha is one of the most prestigious protected areas in Madagascar. The limestone massif is an ancient coral reef. At Bemaraha, erosion has created deep vertical cliffs, filled with faults and a deep fissure, which form a complex labyrinth of caves and rivers.

Day 6 – Bekopaka – Kirindy Forest (B, D)

After breakfast, leaving toward the south, to get to the Kirindy Forest. This can be one of the most rewarding wildlife locations in Madagascar, yet it has only recently received official conservation as part of the Menabe region-protected area. Although previously logged, Kirindy Forest remains the best place to see a number of endemic dry forest species like the Giant Jumping Rat, Narrow-striped Mongoose, Fossa, Madame Berthe`s Mouse Lemur, Verreaux’s Sifaka red-fronted Brown Lemur, Rufous Vanga, Blue Vanga, Madagascar Hognose Snake, and Plated lizard….
Arrival around two hours in the afternoon. Check-in the hotel before night walk inside the forest.

Day 7 – Kirindy Forest – Morondava (B, D)

Morning visit inside of Kirindy forest, Kirindy comprises some 10.000ha of deciduous forest growing on sandy soils of the western coastal plain. The tree species are similar to other western deciduous forests, with a canopy height typically of 12 -15m, reaching 20 -5m in more humid areas along watercourses. Beneath the canopy, throughout much of the forest, the understory and intermediate layers are densely vegetated. Tree species of baobab that live here are Adansonia Rubrostipa, Adansonia Za, and Adansonia Grandidieri, the last being the largest of the baobabs, sometimes exceeding 30m in height. After the visit, back for lunch at the hotel and then a little breath before making way for sunset at the avenue of baobabs.

Day 8 – Morondava – Antsirabe (B, D)

After having breakfast at the hotel, then drive eastward to Antsirabe through the typical landscape of the highland (rice fields, typical villages of the Merina tribe, rocky hills….). Arrive in Antsirabe in the late afternoon. After check-in, you will be free at your leisure for the rest of the day.

Day 9 – Antsirabe –Andasibe (B, D)

After breakfast, head east to Andasibe through the typical landscape and eastern rainforest. On the way, stop at the Peyreiras reptile farm to observe different endemic species of chameleons, lizards, geckos, frogs. Arrived in Andasibe late in the afternoon and after check-in, visit the Analamazaotra Reserve to spot the largest lemurs of Madagascar Indri Indri, which is the largest living lemur if the time allows it. Taking a night walk to spot nocturnal species such as mouse lemurs, chameleons, frogs including painted Mantella.

Day 10 – Andasibe – Mantadia National Park (B, D)

Taking breakfast at the hotel, then a morning walk in the primary forest, Andasibe – Mantadia National Park. Other species of lemurs, reptiles, and birds might be seen during the walk such as the gray bamboo lemur, black and white ruffle lemur, blue vanga, short-legged land rider, nightjar owl, warbler cryptic, the long-eared owl from Madagascar, the nose – horned chameleon, Madagascar tree boa. We will return to the hotel after the visit. In the afternoon, visit the Vakona private reserve including its small crocodile island.

Day 11 – Andasibe – Departure from Antananarivo (B, D)

Breakfast at the hotel and return to Antananarivo. There will be a possibility to take a short city tour of the city and the last purchases at the craft market before your transfer to the airport.
